im 42 and want to go back to college just thought I would throw this out there. going for computer technology and music , i(already play a piano

thanks for any suggestions???

Go to the school you want to attend and they will direct you to the right financial aid path. You will definitely need to fill out a FASFA so go ahead and start that. (not too bad, but a lot of tedious info). Deadlines for financial aid are coming up, so if you are planning on going back in the fall, i would get started now.

Grants are given on to those with lower incomes. I don't know what you income is, but if you make a decent living, you might not qualify for them. BUT, you will be able to get federal loans, which are at a fixed rate. The subsidized loans are the best to get because the government pays the interest while you are in school. Again, your financial aid office will be able to help you more with that.

Be careful of continuing education classes, as they may not be covered for financial aid at your school; it varies…

Good Luck! I love hearing people say they want to go back to school :)

You qualify for the same amount of grants through Pell regardless of your age. Pell is through FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. That grant is $4310, loans are $7500+ Don't do Community College if your head's on straight, they'll keep you forever. Education has no age and the concept has not changed in over 100 years. Suck it up, get the proper skills and training and destroy the goals that you've set up for yourself = )

Building on what the previous poster said - you're basically eligible for the same aid but I do think it might depend on whether or not this is your first degree. I think you can't receive some aid for a second bachelors, it would only be available if you were getting the next degree - that sort of thing.

There are two sources for student loans — the federal government and private lenders. In order to obtain most federal student loans, you will first need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In most<!–instances the FAFSA is required for all federal financial aid including federal student loans. Deferment options are available while you are still attending school at least half-time. There are four main federal loan programs.

Federal loan consolidation is for students who are in repayment status or parents who wish to extend the repayment period on their current PLUS and obtain a fixed interest rate for the life of the loan–>you can combine all of your eligible federal student loans into one loan with a Federal Consolidation Loan. Consolidating also locks the interest rate you pay on your loan.
