Considering starting your own business? How about a music label? There are many government AND private music grants out there that will help you with startup costs. It’s hard to find for-profit grants, but they’re out there, if you have a strong business plan and a good idea of your basic expenses. Start locally and work your way up.
Most people start a farming business using long term loans that take years to pay back. If you think you’re ready to make this leap, try checking into Farm grants before applying for a loan. Consider having some part of your farming business be non-profit; this is an excelent way to qualify for grants. Check into State programs as well.
Some people in our area want to organize a Christian music festival with bands, kids activities, food and entertainment. They’ve been sending out letters of interest to all the county churches to pique interest in attending and sharing the mission and fellowship. They have very little funding, but want to make this a free event that everyone feels welcome to attend.ce on how to propose this to board members greatly appreciated. our mission is to educate and share the love of our Lord.
There are Christian grants and music grants provided by local, state and federal agencies to help pay for non-profit events like this. Think of the good it would do a community to have events like this! Check around with local religious groups and churches to start; they may already know of where to find funding for something of this nature.
It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business. And yes, grants mean PAPERWORK - lots and lots of it, that is why a cottage industry of grant writers was born.
Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.
Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants — all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently. But still the info is the same - hardly any grants for starting a for profit business.
Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/expanding/grants.html…
"The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments."
Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program
Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women’s Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women’s business center that will train women entrepreneurs
For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center’s Foundation Grants for Individuals Online. It’s a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) but their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices." Entrepreneurs are apparently not one of them, so I take it they also don’t have listings of private foundations who give grants to would-be entrepreneurs.
I know of a local organization that hosts a yearly international music competition for young musicians under the age of 32 that come from many different countries. They’re finding their costs rise every year, as they grow and play host to more and more people. They’ve been raising money from sponsors to help cover expenses, but recently began looking for music grants from the federal or state government. Because they play host to so many people from so many different places, a federal grant might cover a good deal of their costs!
Hello I play guitar and would like to study full time.
are there any scholorships that I can apply for?
I don't know about general scholarships, but any school you look at will have scholarships they offer students. A good music/performing arts school in North Carolina is the North Carolina School of the Arts. Check 'em out: http://www.ncarts.edu/
Being really serious about playing an instrument will probably mean going to a good summer music camp, but they can cost anywhere from $500 - $5000. Check into music grants or scholarships to help pay for tuition. Sometimes, depending on your income level, you can get reduced tuition on top of a scholarship or grant.
For young people just starting out and wanting to farm, there are lots of farm grants available. If you were raised on a farm and think you have what it takes, buying land is the first step to having your own farm! Look at the comments for some sites to get you started.
