Buying land to start a farm is exciting - using government farm grant money to help pay for it is even better!  If you can reduce your startup costs through grants and federal incentives, imagine how much more capital you’ll have to put into your new venture.  Start by checking locally and then looking into rural state grant programs.

Recently a man emailed me asking about the availability/criteria for obtaining a solar grant for installing solar power energy to his home to reduce the costs of heating water.  He lives in the Malaga Province (Axarquia region) of Andalucia, Spain.  He thinks this will be an excellent place to utilize the power of the sun!  Using grant money to help pay for something like this is well worth looking into.  Imagine being handed money to help make the world a better place!

A local man recently died, leaving behind a 5.5 acre apple orchard.  His three sons want to keep it but don’t have the funds to take it over and maintain it.  Using a farm grant to help ‘purchase’ the land and then maintain it would enable them to continue their father’s legacy.  Starting with community conservation groups, they’ll find different kinds of grants that they will qualify for.

A solar electric system will last 30 to 100 years, and when you break down costs compared to savings, going green using solar panels is an excellent, money saving way to save the planet.  Check into solar grants and government incentives to help pay for the installation and initial costs to get you going!

My church has some pretty old worship equipment (sound board, speakers, mics, etc.), and I’d love to get new stuff. It’s just not in our budget. Does anyone know where I’d start to find christian grants for that kind of equipment?

Farm grants are usually given out to non-profit business, but check into different types of grants you may qualify for.  If you’re doing something green, like water well recycling, or are preserving land somehow, you may qualify in a variety of different ways.

One of the teachers at a local school in our area is a rising music composer.  He’s been giving away music and lessons to local kids to help keep up their interest in music, which I agree is a valuable way to contribute to our community.  The only problem is, he’s running out of funds and is needing equipment and space to continue composing music and giving lessons.  A music grant would be an excellent way to purchase new equipment and maybe a small studio to keep him in the business of giving back to his community.  Since he’s non-profit, he’d be considered for a good amount of State and Federal grants.  Consider inspiring your community in this way, using grant money the way it’s intended to be used!

Checking with your local agricultural department is a good way to get started when looking for farm grants.  State and Federal agencies offer different types of grants and loans to people depending on what type of farm they’re looking into starting.  Consider when applying:  will there be livestock?  what type of land will I need?  how much land will I need?  will any part of my farm be non-profit based?  Imagine having the funds via grant to get started on your own farm!
